Spiced Garden Peas

Usually I don’t struggle with naming a recipe but this one took me a while. I was thinking of a quick and easy snack and decided to make this quick dish with a handful of ingredients. Frozen garden peas, garlic, cumin, chillies, lemon, butter and a quick mix of spices and voila…. you have a healthy and tasty snack to munch on in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen peas (lightly blended)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3-4 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tsp butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a pan
  2. Add the chopped garlic, cumin seeds, green chilli and asafoetida
  3. Next add the frozen green peas that have been blended lightly to make a mush and mix well

4. Then add the spices including red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt and mix

5. Add a bit of water and cover and let it cook for 4-5 minutes

6. Finally, squeeze the juice of half a lemon, mash the green peas using the spoon and mix

7. Enjoy hot on it’s own or with some chips on the side
